Our Story

Founded by Senseis Eileen and Maurice Sheehan, the Colchester Ki Aikido club has been running for over 30 years and is now in it's second generation of instructors, providing over 100 years combined experience in teaching and training.

Prior to founding Colchester Ki Aikido, Senseis Sheehan studied under Sensei David Currie in the London Dojo until moving on to found the local branch.

Known for its flowing style, Aikido is a Japanese martial art focusing on using an attacker's own force (or Ki) to re-direct or neutralise an opponent. Ki Aikido concentrates on the development and mastery of Ki and it's incorporation into movement and techniques.

The Colchester dojo prides itself on a fun, relaxed and challenging atmosphere, allowing you to develop your own skills at your own pace.
